RESIDENCE: Ancaster
CAREER: Fully retired for the last two years. Classroom teacher for 32 years in Hamilton. Occasional teacher for eight years after that. Recently he joined the executive for District 22 Senior Games and is on the Advisory Board of the Ancaster Senior Achievement Centre.
SENIOR GAMES PARTICIPATION:
Smith has participated in the Summer and Winter Games twice. Won gold in Prediction Swimming 50 metre freestyle, Prediction Walking and Skating. He participated in Actifest in London and won gold in 50 metre freestyle swimming.
As well, he has participated in Winterfest in Brockville and won the bronze medal in Prediction Skating.
He plans to participate in the same events this year as well as Cycling.
Smith has been invited to participate in the Canada Summers Games in Brockville in August 2010. He is entered in 50 metre and 100 metre Freestyle and 50 and 100 metre Breaststroke Swimming.
HOW DO YOU KEEP FIT AND PREPARE FOR THE SENIOR GAMES?
He swims five days a week to keep in shape. As well, he curls in the Dofasco League. Skating, Latin Line Dancing, 50s/60s Line Dance, Clogging and Cycling round out his week.
