A new adult-lifestyle condominium building is beginning to take shape in the heart of Belleville, Ont.
Kings Court, the newest offering from award-winning Geertsma Homes, developer of a number of communities in the Belleville/ Prince Edward County/ Kingston region, broke ground in December and will be ready for occupancy by August, reports company president Andy Geertsma.
The new facility is a great addition to the municipality, City Councillor George Beer said at the ground-breaking ceremony. "It will bring a style of living to the community that other areas don’t have."
The three-storey red-brick and stucco building, on the corner of College Street West and Heartwood Drive, next door to Lion’s Gate, Geertsma Homes’ recently completed adult community of single homes and townhouses, does not carry an age restriction but is designed for the retirement market, Geertsma says. Amenities include underground parking, a fireside entrance lounge, a large basement hobby workshop and a residents lounge with kitchenette.
The 28 one- and two-bedroom condos, ranging from 1,000 to 1,400 square feet, feature overheight ceilings — eight feet-plus for most rooms and nine feet on the top level — for a feeling of spaciousness, plus terraces or balconies, two bathrooms and laundry room.
Extensive landscaping, including a secluded courtyard with gazebo, will provide a natural atmosphere, it is intended, although the development is close to downtown amenities, including the hospital, Geertsma says. A walking path leads directly to the city core.
In addition, the community is surrounded by Bay of Quinte country with plenty of fishing, golf, provincial parks and beaches.
More than half of the units have been pre-sold but there are still suites Geertsma says. Prices range from $153,900 to $225,900.
